This is a portion of the plaque contained on both the Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 spacecraft. It’s supposed to indicate our place in the solar system.

The problem is that since that spacecraft has been launched, we’ve reclassified Pluto as not being a planet.

So depending on how to classify major orbital bodies, there should maybe be only 8 circles listed on that plaque. Or maybe 11. Or maybe there’s even more we don’t know about.

So we sent out the wrong directions.

We’ll never be found.
